Golf is available at nearby castel gandolfo country club, a stunning 18-hole course situated in the bowl of an extinct volcano. Then, after a day of activity, simply relax on the terrace and watch the sun set over rome and the mediterranean.

Castel gandolfo lies to the se of rome, along the appia nuova, in the castelli romani. Perched on the lip of the lake albano crater, the town is only 20 km from the center of rome (appr. 30 minute drive) and yet it feels like a small hill-town nestled in the hills of tuscany or umbria. There are hourly trains from the castel gandolfo station (a 10 minute walk from the apartment) to rome termini and there are numerous buses to rome as well. Ciampino airport (serviced by numerous discount-fare airlines) is ony 10 minutes away and fiumicino airport (serviced by most major international airlines) is 3castel gandolfo is a rare treat. A small village, it offers all the quiet and tranquillity of daily life in the italian countryside - taking in the sun in the piazza while sipping a morning coffee; daily shopping at the local green grocery and bakery; quiet afternoons followed by the daily passeggiata; great evening meals. And yet, because of its close proximity to rome and its location within the alban hills there is always something to do, someplace to go. Castel gandolfo is one of the castelli romani - the castle towns of the alban hills. Close by and worth visiting are frascati, grottaferrata, marino, rocca di papa, albano, nemi, ariccia and genzano.
